Differentiated Instruction

Carol Ann Tomlinson

Differentiated instruction is too often connected to dumbing down the curriculum. In reality differentiated instruction is about helping the curriculum meet the needs of each individual student. While differentiation can make the curriculum accessible to lower functioning students, it can also make the material exciting and challenging for high achieving students as well. Service learning projects can supply our best and brightest students with an opportunity to interact in the real world, at a level that can be found in no other methodology, while still containing meaningful roles for average and below average students.
