Curriculum Rigor and Relevance Model

International Center for Leadership Education (Bill Daggett et. al.)

The rigor and relevance model helps educators explore the separation between what we ask students to learn and what we really want them to be able to do. By seriously discussing the difference between simple fact acquisition and problem solving, the rigor and relevance model points out the inconsistencies in our current teaching. Service Learning can provide a method for introducing the real world application and authentic learning environment required for the transition from fact based recitation, to higher level thinking and problem solving skills.
